The bridge between research and innovation has a potential of billions of dollars but it a tricky one to make!

Re: Making IIT Bombay the next Stanford

Dear Anusha,

The first of our initiatives TechConnect was held on 4th April 2009 at IIT Bombay. We got some awesome coverage in HT then http://www.ircc.iitb.ac.in/... and http://www.ircc.iitb.ac.in/...

It was held again on 24 Jan 2010 www.ircc.iitb.ac.in/techcon... and http://www.techfest.org/loo... (page 11).

Thereafter our team was involved in internships to make TechTransfer policies for IIT Bombay. At this moment our plan is under review by the current dean for R&D there.

Thanks for your interest!

Re: Making IIT Bombay the next Stanford

What is the latest update on this?...

Re: Making IIT Bombay the next Stanford

Hi Arpit,

Glad to know of your initiative to commercialise technologies.

In fact I work for an organisation called VILLGRO which funds & incubates innovations for rural markets and my role to create a business platform, INNOHUB between Innovators & Entrepreneurs for business partnerships to commercialise / scale up techs. & products.

We have an upcoming event UNCONVENTION on 11 & 12 Dec. in Chennai whereby we will showcase 30 Innovators in field of Agri., Energy & Water with techs. & products relevant to rural markets.

Could you identify technologies at IIT Bombay which are relevant in our context which could be showcased at INNOHUB.

Get in touch with me on 91-9381755790 or rajeev@villgro.org

Cheers..

Rajeev Surana

Re: Making IIT Bombay the next Stanford

Thanks a ton, Ashwin. It has no business just sitting in books and conference proceedings. :)

Cheers!

Re: Making IIT Bombay the next Stanford

Thanks Sanjay, Sure! I agree that the first aim of all IITs was to churn out engineers. But slowly their missions have been transformed to actively pursue research and technology transfer. This has happened more in 1990s.

You are right, patents are filed for product ideas and not just ideas in thin air. But often a patented idea along is not enough to prove its efficacy. It requires support from multiple other patents/innovation to display a significant performance improvement. Technology transfer cannot happen unless this happens or institutes gear up for know-how transfer.

Thanks a lot for your wishes.

Re: Making IIT Bombay the next Stanford

Thanks Priyank! This has been the first aim of iits since then..

Further, I think there is some misconception regarding the patents which are being filed.. In india, one can not file a patent for ideas, but only for product or process, which means these can be commercially launched anytime.. and in fact many are..

Still, All the best for your initiative :)

Best

Re: Making IIT Bombay the next Stanford

NIce work Arpit!!!....There is really a dire need of realization of something great that people over are doing here.(both for insiders as well as outsiders)
